Medicine Show — Heather Dust

Just north of Weeki Wachee, Florida had itself a little piece of the Old West. Fort Dodge came complete with cowboys, Indians, staged frontier action — and a medicine show wagon promising remedies for whatever might ail you.

Out West, Boot Hill was the name given to the rough burial grounds associated with frontier towns — the sort of place where the penniless, unknown and unlucky might end up, with the enduring lore of men being buried with their boots still on. Dodge City’s famous Boot Hill dates to the 1870s and became one of the great legends of the American frontier.

Florida’s Fort Dodge eventually met a fittingly Western fate of its own. The roadside attraction folded up shop and was sent to Boot Hill.
